There is plenty of literature on the web about science and religion. There are lots of sites which offer different views on religions, including purpose, methods and consequences. There are also a number of sites on Jainism. However, we could not find much material to do with the Essence of Jainism which is understanding the difference between:-
the self and other objects;
my natural dispositions from unnatural dispositions.
This aspect of Jainism is rare in terms of
availability (almost hidden!) and we want to make people aware of its existence.
We will have achieved our objective if, after examining the material, you question your belief of "one-ness" with the body and alien dispositions.
How did it all start off and who is in the Team?
Upon reading Moksh Marg Prakashak in 1996, Jyoti and Rajesh were so amazed by the subject and the incisive logic of its arguments that they wanted to make this information available to as many people as possible. After numerous attempts to gain support for this relatively large undertaking, a trial site was started at the end of 1998. The first piece of material was Cha Dhala in January 99. Since then the site has grown in content and become better known. As the content outgrew the available storage, another site was set-up.
In September 1999, Minu joined the team bringing much needed skills in Hindi. In October 1999, Deval joined the team and has brought additional skills in Gujrati. At the end of October 1999, Dipak, the youngest member of our team (he is still at school), joined the team (along with his parents). Dipak brings a younger person's view to the process. In December 1999, Ekta and Nikita brought additional HTML skills to the team. Before joining us, Ekta and Nikita had also started to promote Jainism on their own web-site ( http://www.geocities.com/suryakirti ).
In December 1999 we obtained our own domain name, www.AtmaDharma.com . All sites now act as entrances to the same material.
From 8 January 1999 (when we uploaded our first material, Cha Dhala) to 7 January 2000, the combined number of visits to the web sites in our first full year exceeded 15000. We regard this as encouragement to enhance the site further in terms of content and presentation. Your feedback and entries in the guest-book are helping us to prioritise our work.
In July 2000 we were joined by Nilesh and Devang Varia from Rajkot India. They have all round IT skills and study of Jainism.
I want to join the team. What do I need to do?
If you share our vision and would like to join this team to promote Jainism, please contact us via the feedback form. You do not need to be a computer genius! The main requirement is a sincere regard for Jainism based on a logical foundation.
